Bakery Beginnings

I know that some of you are curious as to what has been happening with my bakery plans. Well, I did get licensed to have my own in-home bakery last December. Then I got sick and life happened.
But Melissa has gotten me two cake orders and Matthew is working on getting me an order for breakfast rolls. :) Yes, you can pray about that!
In the mean time, I have been perfecting recipes and drowning my friends and family with sweet things. I am getting set to do some more serious marketing, hopefully with Melissa's help. I would definitely appreciate prayer for that! Marketing is my weakest and most stressful area! I love what I do and the stuff I make, but feel awkward forcing it on other people. Which leads to marketing issues. I am working on my website (and have been for months, I admit), hopefully it will be ready for the public by the end of this week.
I also did some research and learned that if I want to get a store-front (which I do) I need a loan (which I knew). Getting a loan is more difficult. Particularly for a person with no collateral. So, I need to earn lots of money in between now and getting a loan. *grimace Anybody want to invest?! :D
Once I get the website ready to go, I'll give you the link and make a Facebook page and all those things. In the mean time, you can pray that God will send me some more business. ;)

Car Troubles

So, my brakes have been slowly dieing for the last two months. Probably longer than that, but the death rattle was very audible the last two months.
I took the poor thing in yesterday and got a phone call in the middle of my doctor appointment (which I couldn't answer, but I knew). Sure enough, if they call you to check about doing the repairs it means it is going to be exorbitant. But hard to say, "No," when they tell you you are essentially driving a coffin.
When my sister-in-law went to pick it up (my brother, Matthew's, car broke this week too, so I had been lending him mine, but since it was in the shop, had to borrow Sam and Melissa's van for him), and the mechanic put my car into park and checked the emergency brake--which immediately snapped. So, there we were, Matthew and I were both borrowing Sam and Melissa's van at the same time. Three single car families, down to one car between them. We're a great group.

The mechanic tells me that my car should be good to go for a while now. I hope so. It had repairs in Ohio (also on the brakes, interestingly--note: my parents owned this car until I stole if from them this fall, need to work on what I steal), and here in November as well. And now I am sadly out of pocket, actually out of other people's pockets (I picked up a lot of things in Ukraine, not just the language, but I do have to pay them back).

I would definitely appreciate your prayers for our cars. And for our pockets. Can't hurt. Maybe the holes'll get fixed if you pray about it. ;)

Vancouver

Ooops. So early next week turned into late next week. I'm a liar. A terrible one. It cuts me to the heart.
Okay, actually, it just makes me feel a little guilty somewhere on the inside, but ya, whatever. I'm here now and I am afraid that will have to do. My most humble apologies for the tardiness of this post (note that I did not say my tardiness--I refrain from taking responsibility and do acknowledge that this post is fully responsible for itself. I also think that I either had too much sleep last night or not enough.)

So, back to last week. Canada. Mission's Fest. It was good. I learned a lot. There are Mission's Fests all across Canada, but the one in Vancouver is the largest. There were about 250 booths ranging from colleges to camps to missions in China, India, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Brazil, Kenya, and probably most the other countries in the world. (Some booths cheated and had ministries in more than one country.) I can't say that CBLT garnered tons of interest, but I'm not sure that was the most important thing.
During the whole event our Canadian mission director, Dr. Lucas was constantly popping in and out and introducing me to every other person who walked by (when he wasn't off have coffee or dinner with someone else who had popped out of the woodwork and demanded time with him). I got to meet a lot of interesting people!
But I think that the main thing was that I was there and next year I will be there and people will gradually get more accustomed to our name and learn more and more what we do. It is like building a brand. It takes time, but once people get used to you and see you there regularly, they begin to assume you are trustworthy and eventually begin buying your brand. Isn't that a lovely way to think of missions representation. :|

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaah.

Time flies. I had a great trip to Canada! Thank you for all your prayers. I will post a better update early next week, just wanted to let you know briefly.
Promptly after coming home I came down with a cold, so am in the throes of that. But am very happy that it didn't happen while I was in Canada and I have a great homeopathic remedy from some friends that seems to be helping.
I also discovered just before I left for Canada that coffee seems to be one of the triggers for my hand pain. Specifically brewed coffee--the instant kind seems fine. So, that is a praise as that is fairly easy to avoid now that I know. Unfortunately, I forgot to take instant coffee with me on my trip, so my hands and feet are still recovering, but I am happy to know that there is something I can do about it other than just take supplements and meds.
I also told my chiropractor last week that I was having more exhaustion and he worked on something again and I am feeling much better. It is such a blessing to have a doctor who believes me when I tell him I don't feel well and who can do something about it. It gives me a lot of hope for the future!
